In
the wake of last month’s tragedy in Tuscon,
Arizona – which killed six people
and injured 12 others including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords –there has
been increased interest in learning more about the effects, treatment and
recovery from traumatic brain injury. Last
week, Southern Illinois’ ABC affiliate shared
the stories of three women who are recovering from brain injuries to show the
importance of individualized treatment.
The video includes commentary from Amy VanPatten, a former news anchor for WSIL and TBI survivor, as well as highlights from former NeuroRestorative Carbondale participant Angela Moehring’s therapy sessions. Moehring now educates young people on how to avoid risky situations that may lead to brain injury through a program called ThinkFirst.
NeuroRestorative’s Vice President of Operations for the Central Region, Robin Ray, who was also interviewed by ABC, knows that every traumatic brain injury is unique and the road to recovery is just as unique. “It is important that TBI survivors receive an individualized rehabilitation program based upon their strengths and capabilities,” says Robin. “At NeuroRestorative, we have developed a flexible continuum of care that helps guide participants through their rehabilitative journey and we’re they’re with them every step of the way.”
