Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty is Awarded Full Accreditation by The Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for its Inpatient and Outpatient Brain Injury Rehabilitation
Programs for Adults and Adolescents
Tulsa, Oklahoma – Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty has earned a Three-Year Accreditation
for its Brain Injury Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation Programs serving adults and adolescents.
The accreditation was awarded by Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
CARF is an international accrediting organization committed to promoting the quality, value, and optimal
outcomes of rehabilitation services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing
the lives of the persons served. Following a comprehensive review of Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty’s clinical
and administrative practices, CARF found the organization to have many strengths and noted that Oklahoma
NeuroSpecialty “provides a valuable and appreciated service to persons served and to the community in an
attractive and healing environment.” CARF also noted that the hospital’s staff members are “qualified,
enthusiastic, dedicated, and demonstrate remarkable patience and concern for the dignity and welfare of
the persons served.” Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty was awarded the highest level of accreditation.
Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty is licensed by the Oklahoma Department of Health (ODH), to operate exclusively
as a specialized brain injury treatment facility. The facility provides a broad range of restorative
therapies designed to meet the special needs of persons recovering from a brain injury. The clinical
team consists of professionals from the following fields: nursing, speech-language pathology, physical
therapy, occupational therapy, behavior analysis, neuropsychology, social work, and case management.
Perri Craven, M.D. serves as medical director. Dr. Craven is board certified in physical medicine and
rehabilitation with extensive experience in treating patients with brain injuries in both acute and
post-acute settings. The facility is designed to provide a home-like environment while the patient receives
care and individualized therapy in a structured setting. Frequent opportunities for generalization of
skills by accessing the surrounding community for functional skills acquisition are also provided. The
continuum of care provided by Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty is the most comprehensive in the region.
“Our clinical and administrative team worked diligently at achieving CARF accreditation. Our goal is
to deliver the highest quality of services to persons recovering from brain injuries. CARF accreditation
establishes the foundation for our ongoing commitment to excellence in meeting the needs of our patients,
their families, and our other stakeholders,” said Susie Sheridan, M.S., CCC-SLP, Chief Executive Officer.
Oklahoma NeuroSpecialty is located on the CityPlex campus in south Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 18-bed hospital
is part of NeuroRestorative® Specialty Centers, an Arkansas-based national healthcare firm that owns and
manages regional brain injury treatment facilities in Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports about 1.5 million U.S. residents sustain traumatic brain
injuries each year. These injuries range from mild to severe. The National Institutes of Health Consensus Panel
on Rehabilitation of Persons with Traumatic Brain Injury reports individuals with brain injuries need
specialized treatment programs consisting of medical, psychological, social and behavioral therapies, as
well as community-based non-medical services.
