Behavioral Services

Intensive, specialized interdisciplinary services provided in a highly structured and supervised environment in order to stabilize and promote recovery from neurobehavioral and functional deficits following acquired brain injuries.

Through an integrated therapeutic approach utilizing behavior analysis patients are assisted in developing adaptive behavior patterns while gaining functional abilities in self-care, physical performance, communication, and neuropsychological functioning to allow the patient to move to less restrictive but more challenging living and therapeutic settings.

Treatment Setting: Highly structured and supervised post-acute unit in a hospital setting providing a secure and safe environment with the availability of a wide-range of on-site medical resources and/or specialty medical consultations if required.

Key Components:

Medical - A licensed physician serves as medical director and leads the team where medical care is concerned. Nursing and health-related services are provided by registered nursing staff and/or licensed vocational nurses.

Case Management/Outcome Measurement - Each client is assigned a Case Manager who implements the development and coordination of a treatment plan; coordinates discharge planning; monitors clinical outcomes; and acts as a liaison to family, insurance case managers, and other funding representatives. Our program utilizes the Clinical Outcome System (CLOUT®) a clinical outcome measurement system specifically designed to measure therapeutic progress in post-acute brain injury rehabilitation.

Behavior Analysis - Behavior analysis approaches allow the treatment team to work with individuals experiencing behavior problems that interfere with treatment and maximize skills acquisition. Our behavior services strive to replace inappropriate behaviors with normalized, alternative behaviors. Root causes of maladaptive behaviors are the focus of our behavioral assessment procedure. Our Interdisciplinary Behavioral Acquisition System (IBAS®), an individualized behavioral programming system, integrates behavioral interventions with other specialized disciplines. Appropriate behaviors are reinforced across all disciplines and by all staff 24 hours a day.

Interdisciplinary Therapy - Clinicians from a broad range of disciplines provide services in a coordinated manner to ensure outcome-focused, functional treatment goals. Clinicians design a treatment plan that addresses functional skills in self-care, behavior, communication, neuropsychological , and physical areas.

Life Skills Training - Our services offer our patients intensive life skills training vital to their independence. This training emphasizes self-care, activities of daily living, communication skills, social skills, physical functioning, and behavioral and psychological adjustment to the disability. Our Life Skills trainers assist in generalization of skills acquired in all settings.

Family Involvement - Successful re-integration of the patient with family life following acquired brain injuries requires the family to have an understanding of the behavioral, physical, communication and neuropsychological effects of brain injury. Families are encouraged to participate in scheduled educational sessions and be an active member of the treatment team throughout the course of treatment.

Individualized Treatment

Upon admission, each client receives a comprehensive and ongoing assessment identifying behavioral and functional deficits and abilities. Specific therapeutic goals and a treatment plan are then developed to determine the sequence for addressing specified skill development.

Appropriate Referrals

NeuroRestorative® Specialty Services provide a continuum of programmatic structure enabling clients to progress through increasingly less structured environments with the final goal of adapting to their projected discharge setting.

  • Individuals ages 15 and older diagnosed with an acquired brain injury exhibiting medical stability, Rancho Level IV and above.
  • Individuals who are consistently disoriented, agitated or aggressive affecting safety to self and others.
  • Individuals who are consistently uncooperative or exhibiting other mild inappropriate behaviors interfering with traditional acute rehabilitation programming.
