Brain Injury Awareness Month

Brain health is an important part of not only recovery, but everyday life. It is imperative to take time for your physical and mental wellness to allow your brain to function properly. Here are a few physical and self-care tips for a healthy brain!

Exercise

Just walking for 30 minutes a day will stimulate cell growth and repair in your brain. Healthy blood flow in your brain strengthens and maintains your neuronal connections. It doesn’t matter whether you do weight training, pilates or jog.

Practice self-soothing

Use brain-smart strategies such as bilateral stimulation to ‘short-circuit’ worry and stress. Stop for a moment and take a deep breathe every now and then and notice how it feels. Direct your attention to soothing elements of your environment—sometimes you just need to stop and smell the roses—literally!

Healthy diet for the brain

Eat foods that are rich in healthy components such as omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins and antioxidants. Incorporating green, leafy vegetables, fatty fish, berries and walnuts into your diet can help improve mental functioning & the overall health of your brain.
