Savitha Bonthala, D.O. Medical Director, Texas

Savitha Bonthala, D.O., is board certified in physical medicine, rehabilitation and brain injury medicine. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Texas at Austin in the Business Honors Program and attended Touro University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in California. She received a dual master’s degree in public health and an osteopathic medical degree. During medical school, Dr. Bonthala served as an Anne C Carter Global Health Fellow through the American Medical Women’s Association. She worked abroad in Uganda and Bolivia to help reduce the burden of malaria in underserved rural communities.

Dr. Bonthala graduated as one of five distinguished students from across Touro’s medical campus, encompassing those in the college of medicine, pharmacy, and public health. She completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine/TIRR and her fellowship in brain injury medicine at Baylor College of Medicine/TIRR.

Today, Dr. Bonthala serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Sam Houston State College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she teaches osteopathic manipulative medicine to first and second-year medical students. Her interests in brain injury medicine include spasticity management, the use of osteopathic manipulative medicine, and alternative therapies including (but not limited to), meditation/mindfulness, dance therapy, and aromatherapy. She has lectured on “Mindfulness in the Brain Injured Patient” at both Shepherd Center in Atlanta and the Michigan Brain Injury Society.
